Lots going on here at the studio. We're currently celebrating our 15th year in business with discounts and events through out the rest of the year. Bands recording full records with us in Oct, Nov, and Dec are being offered discounts on both our studios. If interested, get in touch about booking dates by calling 804 788 0607 or emailing us at miguel@soundofmusic.org
We've cleaned up the front gallery and turned it into a record shop of sorts. We'll carry anything local, be it releases from Richmond bands, Richmond labels, or bands recording at the studio. It won't be open all the time, just special events like First Friday. Everything is on consignment at a price set by the artist or label. We'll take small amounts of CDs, LPs, shirts, or any other merchandise. Drop by or get in touch if you're interested.
In November, we'll be having a few studio events; including three CD release parties. Friday Nov 20th Blue Line Highway will be playing with Hugo Haggie on his release night. Saturday the 21st Ki:Theory and Maki will play with Marionette when their CD drops. Other events are being planned now including an Anduin release party and a screening of footage from the reality show / documentary that was shot here.

2nd quarter update...
Summer is here and we sure are staying busy. Both Cracker and Carbon Leaf are in the top 40 right now with albums we've worked on. Local indie rock band Marionette has finished mixing their new record. New York's Left Me Bashful has been tracking their next album while Virginia prog rockers Kinetic Elements have been busy working on an album of their own. Sweat Lodge, No Dice, Eat The Center, and Matt Tracy have all recently recorded new tracks. Later this summer we are working on albums for the fantastic Old Ceremony, avant metal act Souvenir's Young America, americana band Blue Line Highway, and Swedish ambient artist Jasper TX.
Magnet Magazine Articles featuring our own Alan Weatherhead and John Morand!
And on a sad note, friend of the studio Gary Gerloff recently passed away. He is and will continue to be missed.
1st quarter update...
2009 is well underway; we've been very busy here at Sound of Music. At the end of 2008 and on into 2009, we worked with California's Poor Man's Whiskey on their "Dark Side Of The Moonshine" album, a blue grass version of Pink Floyd's classic album "Dark Side Of The Moon. Old Ceremony(NC) have started recording their follow up record; read about the current realease on Pitchfork media...
Teddy Blanks, frontman of the now de funk'd Gaskets(VA), has embarked on his solo project, we will be mixing in April for an upcoming EP; we did a record for local thud rockers Punch You In The Face Big before cleaning out the studio and doing a video shoot for Lamb Of God's "Set To Fail, the first single off their new album; which they partially tracked here at Sound of Music. Hex-machine has released their latest offerings, under the moniker, omen mas (RVA keeping it heavy)...leaving metal behind for a bit, we moved on to mixing records for both Lauren Hoffman and UK sensation Nadine Khouri. Mercy Creek has been tracking and mixing for months now, working towards completing their next album. Plus other artists, like the Hackensaw Boys, Cosmonaut's Ruin, and Marionette, have been hard at work on their various projects here in both our A and B studios. In March, we're hard at work on Poor Man's Whiskey's next full length record and have a slew of sessions on the horizon. Conshafter has released "Bombs Away Baby"; David Lowery of Cracker is working on his first/long awaited, solo record. RVA punks Sweat Lodge will be working on their first record. NY by way of DC by way of Richmond artists Gregor Samsa are sketching out new ideas here. Forensics are coming in to record an EP for their Alaskan tour(!). Knit Delicate will bring their own special blend of indie rock in April, along with Belgian songbird Ilsa. And that's just the first quarter of 2009. Great things coming up. We hope you're as excited as we are. Time is still available, so get in touch and be a part of it!
